Xlr Speaker

Electric bass guitar problems?
I have an electric bass guitar and I plugged it into my mixer. My mixer is hooked directly to my computer. When I strum it i hear no sound through the speakers. I tried XLR as well as a regualr 1/4″ jack. And the mixer has phantom power if that makes any difference. Whats the problem?
I turned all the knobs (2) both directions and still nothing. When I plug other things into the same jacks the Guitar was hooked into and the speakers pick them up. Do i need another power source? There are no other jacks on my guitar besides the 1/4″ jack.
You probably need a pre-amp to get you more head room from the bass. Bass can be a softer signal, it takes a lot more power to make the same sound level. You should be able to use a di box and run it xlr and get a good level, though. Try a di box with a db pad on it that is selectable. It should be able to get you a strong enough signal if you go with either -20db or 0 db.
