BNC
Use
The BNC connector is for RF signal connections, for analog and digital video interface standard, amateur radio antenna connections used aviation electronics (avionics) and many other types of electronic test equipment. There is an alternative to the RCA connector for composite video when in commercial video equipment used, although many consumer electronics public with RCA jacks that can be a BNC video equipment sales via a simple adapter to be used. BNC connectors are commonly used on networks 10Base2 Ethernet thin, both wired connections and network cards, although this largely by new Ethernet devices not associated wiring coaxial cable used has been replaced. Some ARCNET networks use BNC terminated coax.
Factsheet
connectors BNC are there in 50 and 75 Ohm versions. Originally, all 50 ohms and were used with cables of other impedances, neglecting offset weak at low frequencies. 75-ohm types are sometimes reduced or absent in the dielectric of the mating season ends to be recognized. Different versions are designed to fit together, even if the difference in the impedance of the cable can cause signal reflections. Generally, they are each for use at frequencies up to 4 and 2 GHz.
75 Ohm BNC are used mainly for video and DS3 telco applications Central 50 ohms are used for data and HF. There was agreement at the BBC that the BNC connectors used for video are still 50 ohms could damage, because a stray dog would be a 50 Ohm BNC 75-ohm jack when connected by mistake. Many FM receivers used 75 Ohm antenna input, so often 75 Ohm BNC.
History
The port was named after its bayonet locking mechanism and its two inventors, Paul Neill of Bell Labs (inventor of the N connector) and Amphenol engineer Carl Concelman (inventor of the C-terminal). Other backronym NBC over the years has collected the following: Aby Neill-Concelman, aby N connector, ritish ayonet Naval Connector Nut Connector, ayonet Naval Connector. The basis for the development of BNC was largely the work Octavio M. Salati, a graduate of the Moore School of Electrical Engineering, University of Pennsylvania (BSEE '36, PhD '63). He asked a patent in 1945 (published 1951) while working on Hazeltine Electronics Corporation for connection to coaxial cables that wave reflection or loss would minimize placed.
Similar connections
The BNC connector is much smaller than the old N or C-terminal.
A version threaded BNC connector, known as the TNC connector (for threaded Neill-Concelman) is also available. It has superior performance to the BNC connector at frequencies microwave.
Triaxial BNC
BNC connections are often used in NIM electronics, but they are now often of miniature Lemo 00, which replaces allow higher densities. For higher voltages are MHV and SHV connectors be used in the rule. MHV connectors are easily confused with BNC connectors to mate with them and can be done by brute force. VHS was the connector as an alternative Safer MHV connectors developed and is not inter-mate with standard BNC connectors.
and SR-75 (Russian: -75) Connections: In the USSR, connectors BNC that SR-50 (-50 Russian) copied. These connectors have slightly different dimensions (as a result of recalculation of the Imperial system metric), but are generally interchangeable with BNC, sometimes enforced with vigor.
Twin BNC (aka Twinax) connections use the shell as a ordinary bayonet locking BNC connector mentioned, but two independent contact points (one male and one female), such as connecting a 78 ohm or 95 ohm shielded differential pair such as RG-108A. They are designed to operate at 100 MHz and 100 volts. Twin BNC connectors with standard BNC Intermate not.
Triaxial (also known as Triax) are a variation on a BNC connector, the both carry a signal and guarding and grounding conductor. They are used in sensitive areas of electronic measuring systems, including by Keithley. [Edit] the first with a single driver design extra inner but connections later, triaxial, a three-tab forced to exclude a random mating with a BNC connector. Adapter allows certain combinations of Tri-ax and BNC connectors.
