Is there an easy way to fix a plastic Electrical box, short of replacing it?
I am trying to install an outdoor wall lamp. Unfortunately, the plastic electrical box the old unit was connected with is looking pretty shabby, and the two screw holes that I would use to attach the Mounting strip are broken (One has a piece of screw in it, the other is cracked by a too large screw that was used.)
Doubly unfortunate, the box goes into a brick wall, and seems to be cemented into place. So replacing it seems like it will be either very difficult or very expensive.
Is there any way to fix this box, or replace it easily?
If there is enough of a lip on other parts of the box, you can drill a hole and screw the mounting brackett into those new holes. Most mounting brackets will turn so you can align the holes needed to mount the light.
Or just remove it. Since it is plastic, take a hammer and screwdriver (or cold chisel) to break it up and pull it out.
