Vintage Condenser

How much should we expect to pay to replace our 80k BTU furnace?
We’re looking at replacing our early 1970s vintage 80,000 BTU furnace. It’s part of a central A/C system (3 ton, I think). The furnace needs to be replaced. Should we also replace the evaporator? Do we even have a choice, like, will we HAVE to replace the evaporator if we’re replacing the furnace? The condenser was replaced about three years ago. Is there any sense in getting a completely new system, that is, a new furnace, evaporator, and condenser? And what should we be expecting to pay for the various options?
Thanks in advance!
Could we get a variable-speed, high-efficiency unit that qualifies the $1500 tax credit ….for less than $2000?
I would say to replace your furnace it is most likely going to run somewhere from the 1300 on up depending on your area, contractors, and things that are needed for the install..to answere your second ?, you dont have to replace the evaporator, but, if you did change it for a higher efficiency evap, it will help to lower your cooling costs, and older evaps are prone to leaking, nowadays if you needed a new unit, it wouldnt work with the old evap most likely, so really you would be money ahead to go ahead and get it over with, 3rd ?, no I woulnt repace your condenser, i think it will be ok for some time. As a former residential tech, now in commercial, I also ask you to please do your research on furnace brands before making a quick decision, I will not knock any brands on here, every brand has its place, just make sure it will be something you will be happy with once all is said and done
