Instrument Condenser
Do you know how to EQ drums and other instruments to make them sound better?
my mixes are dry, without life. i need to know exact frequencies of all the cymbals and toms, snare and kick. and how much to take away at what frequency and such. just some guidelines. i dont understand how to use a parametric eq or the other para-word eq either. i have all types of computer effects and dont know how to use them well. i just got the basics on compression, but i am just the padawan learner. any help would be appreciated. im not bad with working out levels, and all the preamp jazz, getting the sound not to clip and stablizing norms. its just the mixdown sounding dull and severely lacking in power and depth. if there is a online school for becoming a recording engineer, please point me in the right direction.

I don’t know about tried and true “On Paper” technique about frequency specs and all that , i just use my ears. Have you considered checking out BBE’s sonic maximizer or aural exciter stuff? They are supposed to bring punch and clarity to otherwise dull mixes.
